The Team
Who is behind the scenes:
Alexandra Wielandt
PhD Researcher
Alexandra is a PhD candidate at the mpilhlt. Her main research interests are materiality and legal historical epistemology. When she is not looking for the doctrine of precedent in the case law books published in the Cape of Good Hope in the 19th century, she spends her time playing with her two delightful toddlers.
She is also the editor of the blog “Legal History Insights”.
Nicole Pasakarnis
Assistant to the Director
When Nicole is not co-piloting the department “Historical Regimes of Normativity” at the mpilhlt, she loves trying out (almost) every recipe by Yotam Ottolenghi.
She is also the editor of the blog “Legal History Insights”.
Thomas Duve
Director
Thomas is Director of the Department “Historical Regimes of Normativity” at the mpilhlt and Professor of legal history at the Goethe University Frankfurt.
When Thomas is not working on the legal history of the “Iberian Worlds”, and continuously asking himself how to write legal history in a way that is apt for the 21st century, he likes spending time in this birthplace Hamburg, or in Buenos Aires (but he has also made his peace with Frankfurt).
He is also the editor of the blog “Legal History Insights”.
Julia Hütten
Researcher
Julia is a researcher at the mpilhlt. Her main research interests are colonial law, customary law, and the legal history of the family. When she is not reading coarsely scribbled civil court records, she enjoys various activities in the fresh air, attending experimental theater, and exploring historical sites.
She is also the editor of the blog “Legal History Insights”.
Nádia dos Santos Ossenkop
Researcher
Nádia is a digital humanities researcher at the mpilhlt. When she is not coding and reading about AI, she likes to sit by the river Rhein and have a good time.
She is also the developer of the blog “Legal History Insights”.
